Founded in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent, now Saint Laurent Paris, is still one of the most prominent and innovating fashion houses to this day.
In 1997, as Yves Saint Laurent remained creative director, Pierre Bergé appointed Hedi Slimane as collections and art director to revive YSL Rive Gauche Homme. Two years later, Slimane decided to leave the house to pursue his new job as head of couture menswear at Dior.
Tom Ford was appointed as the next creative director for the brand, followed by Stefano Pilati in 2004 - who struggled massively when key stores in the U.S. closed upon the tragic death of Yves Saint Laurent in 2008. The return of Hedi Slimane in 2012, who replaced Pilati as creative director and revived the fashion house's couture line - which Yves Saint Laurent closed before his death. Yves Saint Laurent became Saint Laurent Paris, a decision that struck an international controversy in the fashion industry. Slimane left the brand in 2016 and is the new, soon-to-be creative director of Céline following the departure of long time CD Phoebe Philo. In 2017, Anthony Vaccarello was appointed as the brand's creative director and Saint Laurent continues to thrive as one of the leading brands in the fashion industry.
Yves Saint Laurent created a brand rich in timeless beauty, sophistication, and classic elegance. Tom Ford added sexiness, giving the brand a sense of sensuality it never had. Stefano Pilati added on to Ford's vision but incorporated true French styles. Hedi Slimane collaborated all three directions and Saint Laurent found its destination - the sexy, edgy, chic, rock n' roll aesthetic was born.
Saint Laurent is known for their suits, leather jackets, and perfectly tailored silhouettes accentuating women's figures. Their accessories are just as acclaimed. Bags with the signature YSL logo prominently sitting on the front of each piece, the classic Sac de Jour, to the iconic Chelsea boot - it's no wonder the eminent brand is so desired.
One of the most exemplary pieces from the brand is the Envelope Wallet on Chain. Part of their Monogram collection, this bag is seen everywhere. French-Austrain artist Adolph Mouron created the overlapping YSL logo in the early 60's, and it became Saint Laurent's signature to this day. Carefully crafted in grain de poudre textured leather in a matelassé design, infamous the YSL logo, and delicate chain strap - the Envelope WOC is not only the perfect compliment to any day-to-night look, but an essential addition to any luxury handbag collection.
Remaining true to the brand's roots, this bag exudes timeless elegance combined with modern edge - making it suitable for any sophisticated woman with a sleek sense of style by day, but is also an underground rockstar by night. Wear this piece with a vintage tee, paired with ripped boyfriend jeans, combat boots and an edgy leather jacket for a casual look. Dress it up with a silk blouse paired with culottes and stilettos for dressier evenings. Regardless of what you wear the Monogram Envelope WOC with, you can be sure you'll be the chicest person at the party, the grocery store, or wherever your day may take you.
