Ever since the birth of the brand in 1921, Florence, Gucci have noticeably established a niche for themselves within the fashion industry. Built on the foundations of their impressive craftsmanship, creative flair and willingness to take risks.
In January 2015, it was announced that Alessandro Michele would become the new creative director for the brand. Upon hearing the news, the fashion firmament expressed concern; no doubt veiled by an abundance of surprise. Michele, described by those who have worked with him as the ‘Modern Medici’, made it his duty to both solidify Gucci’s fashion imprint and pave way for contemporary and electrifying modifications. A true visionary, Michele is extremely daring, mysterious and rather eccentric, a notion that is now cleverly embedded into everything that is Gucci. From the impactful printed dresses to embellished skirts and electric accessories, Michele rapidly transformed the historic house to what is now the only fashion brand at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Unsurprisingly, it took a mind like that of Michele’s to set a questionable trend, or merely revive an old trend.
The bum bag.
Alessandro Michele unveiled the belt bag as part of the GG marmont line during the Pre-Fall 2017 collection. Much like many other trends, the move left the masses both in shock and in awe. It’s now 2018, and we envisage the bum bag staying for a little while longer. Overtime, the belt bag, has become the foundation of any monumental outfit, adding a subtle tone of ‘je-ne-cais-quoi’ to any and every outfit. With everyone from your favourite model to your beloved reality TV star and even the infamous girl next door donning a belt bag, it’s no wonder that you are contemplating purchasing one too.
The Gucci marmont belt bag is presented to you in a rounded shape; channelling both a sportswear and retro vibe. The belt bag features deliciously decadent matelassé chevron velvet, and a stitched chevron pattern. The soft quilt is accented with an antique gold-tone GG plaque.
On its reverse, the bag features a sweet stitching of a love heart in the same chevron pattern.
The theme of extravagance is further reflected in the interior of the bag, which features radiant pink satin. A characteristic attribute of the Gucci marmont collection. The bag features an adjustable leather belt which, of course, matches the colour of the belt bag.
The duality of the bum bag is reflected through the belt itself as it allows you to wear it over your waist, on your hip or if you are feeling bold, draped across your chest. Which is one of the endless reasons why we adore the bag.
Bag review
As far as utility goes, the marmont belt bag has our seal of approval. This miniature bag possesses a height of 11cm, width of 18cm and a depth of 5cm. Though many have a tendency of overlooking the marmont belt bag due to its small exterior appearance, we can in fact confirm this small but mighty bag has the capability of holding all of your necessities. How do we know? We sampled it ourselves.
We got our eager hands on the Gucci marmont belt bag in jewel-blue and fastened it onto a rather eager volunteer, who was unsurprisingly contemplating purchasing this very belt bag. We then proceeded to gathering a few of her personal necessities; consisting of the iPhone 8, a lipstick and lip lacquer, a compact mirror, a Louis Vuitton vernis purse and a hand sanitiser. All of which fit into the marmont belt bag with unprecedented ease.
The belt bag is not only an eccentric finishing touch your outfit was crying out for but it is also an avant-garde for going handsfree.

Looking after yours
Note that all leather and animal skin is very different and with regular age they will unquestionably build creases and irregularities. In case of a spillage, because we are human after all, use a paper towel or a soft cloth to soak up the remnants of the liquid. Use a gentle blotting motion rather a scrubbing motion as this will introduce a harshness to the tone of the velvet. For harsher stains, use warm water and a gentle detergent. When not in use, store the belt bag in its dust bag and away from the exposure of sunlight.
