There are few American handbag designers with a heritage as rich as Coach. The label was founded in 1941 under the name Manhattan Leather Bags. They were six artisans in a loft, who sought to create bags made with the finest leather and the superior craftsmanship that the brand is known for today. As a New York design house, the brand creates modern designs with American attitude.
For a brand with such modern designs, it is interesting to learn that they have collaborated with an unlikely partner: Rodarte. The latter was founded in 2005 by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy and has since become a fashion power house, known for their intricate and feminine premium designs which have won them a number of awards.
Their collaborative collection, which includes everything from accessories to dresses and jumpers, reflects the styles of both labels. The luxury leather bags boast the fine craftsmanship and clean lines that Coach is known for. However, Rodarte has added a feminine touch with delicate floral embroidery. The Mulleavy sisters also suggested they add the ‘This is a Coach bag’ advertisement from their 1970’s campaign to one of the bag designs, which is a smart way to show a new side to this creative American fashion house that might go on to inspire some fresh designs in their upcoming seasons.
