The house of Dior’s new Creative Director showed what a modern woman’s whimsical dream looks like for her SS17 debut show – and now her new handbag collection has finally hit stores.
Featuring soft leathers, bold trims and clean lines, the new collection is free from masculine and feminine stereotypes. She pairs chunky brass hardware with clean, modern silhouettes, maintaining sophistication and glamour.
Maria Grazia Chiuri stated that she wanted to create a collection that ‘resembles the women of today’. Feminism is clearly important to Grazia Chiuri; she has talked about the importance of women following their dreams. This theme was directly displayed during the show, as models wore tee’s with ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ printed on them. This is key to the approach the designer is taking with the fashion house. Grazia Chiuri is reaching out to the young woman of today who want to wear fashionable accessories that allow them to be themselves, free from boundaries.
The bee motif also features heavily throughout the spring collection, which was often used by Hedi Slimane during his reign at the fashion house. This is said to represent Grazia Chiuri’s approach to her designs for her new collections, which she wants to be a celebration of the designers that have worked with the brand through the years and bringing them in to modern times.
In using the vintage Dior logo, Grazia Chiuri is clearly staying true to the values of the brand, whilst putting her signature on it, which results in a bag collection that is sure to attract the young women of today looking for that perfect accessory for their 2017 wardrobe.
