Jonathan Anderson has taken the fashion world by storm since he started his eponymous label, J.W Anderson in 2008. His collections, which were inspired by a mix of masculinity and femininity were an instant hit with the industry, and Anderson showed his first collection during London Fashion Week that same year. Since then, Anderson has enjoyed continued praise in the industry, as well as commercial success. The Northern Irish designer has developed a cult following after launching his Womenswear collection in 2010, which is stocked at retailers around the globe.
In 2014, his growing brand and increasing demand led to an investment by the luxury fashion conglomerate, LVMH. After meeting with the CEO and Chairmain of the company, Pierre-Yves Roussel, Anderson was also offered the Creative Director position at Spanish leather goods brand, Loewe. Roussel said that he wanted to see Anderson 'express his full potential'.
Anderson showed his debut collection for Loewe in September 2014 and showed a new aesthetic for the brand. He changed it to be fresher, brighter and crisper. These changes were welcomed and once again he has received critical acclaim for his directorship at Loewe. He claimed that the character of the brand lies in the ready-to-wear collection, and the bags must follow. As a leather goods company, some popular new bags were expected.
Anderson introduced the Puzzle bag in 2015 and it has since become an 'it' bag for the brand. Crafted out of 41 separate pieces of leather, the bag can be folded down to become a clutch, making it hugely versatile. It also comes in a range of colours to suit any wardrobe.
In 2015, Anderson won both the Menswear and Womenswear Designer of the Year awards at the British fashion awards. He is the only designer to have been awarded both awards in the same year. This designer is definitely not slowing down, and his collections become more exciting each year.
