British designer Sophie Hulme founded her eponymous label in 2011, and has since grown it into a global fashion house. After graduating from Kingston University, studying design, she decided to start with a ready to wear collection that was popular straight from the get go. Taking her debut collection to a trade show in Paris, it was snapped up by Selfridges, which she says really helped her to get the business started.
She has a design studio in Islington, London which used to be a toy factory. It is now the hub of her 32-person team. Last year, Hulme expanded her collection with evening bags and jewellery. She has expressed that she would also love to add shoes at some point, but is concentrating on the successful bag lines for now. She also introduced silver hardware, which was a new direction for the brand which became known for their 24karat gold plated hardware. However, this worked perfectly with the pale grey hue she used in the collection and means that her loyal fans and customers can choose their hardware preference.
Sophie Hulme is now stocked in 400 retailers around the globe and hopes to eventually open her own retail store. Her success is testament to staying true to her brand identity, which is all about focusing on the product, rather than the brand. Her bags are made from the finest materials at experienced Italian factories, meaning you get exceptional quality without the extreme designer price tag. This, she believes, is why the brand has been so well received.
With Hulme’s allure and strong brand presence, we’re sure that there will be more great things to come from this promising designer. If you want to add a touch of glamour to your wardrobe, grab the Sophie Hulme Compton Clutch from Bagista today.
