Fendi have long been championed for their accessories, which strike the perfect balance between innovation and style. However, their latest update has divided the brand's loyal following. This week Fendi released their new range of Kan I F bags, which are available to pre-order on their website. The bags were first seen on the AW17 runway, where they debuted a new logo which is a circle with what looks like a fallen 'F' in the centre. This new logo is the key design feature for many of the bags, some of which are quite plain otherwise.
The materials used are to be expected from Fendi, with lots of different furs, bold colours, mixed metal hardware and exotic skins used in order to create a diverse and interesting range of accessories. It is hard to tell at this stage whether or not this new logo design is going to deter their followers from investing in this seasons collection, or if the brands credentials mean they will prove successful by default.
One example of the plainer bags, which really accentuates the use of this circle logo is this dark blue calf leather bag, which is available online now for £1,680:
Another design element which is sure to divide opinion is the mixed metals. The bags like the one above feature almost all gold hardware, except for one strap which is silver. For some luxury bag lovers, mixed metals is a deal breaker. Most luxury bag collectors are either advocates of silver or gold, and don't often buy a mix of the two, let alone having them mixed within the one bag.
The new collection does contain bags where they have mixed the circle element into the overall design by disguising it as a flower bud, and some where they have used the circle as a larger bubble effect design. These may sway some of the Fendi collectors who are not a fan of this new logo, as it isn't the stand out feature on the bag, and make for interesting and eye catching pieces, although they are the more expensive items, with the bubble effect bag going for £2,400.
Whether you are a Fendi lover or not, under the Creative Direction of Fendi family member, Silvia Venturini Fendi, their accessories have been highly sought after over the past few seasons. Their loyal following are likely to jump at the chance to buy these new, unique designs.
